Buyer / Planner

Location: Galway City, Ireland

We are seeking an experienced professional with a strong background in purchasing and material management to join our team as a Buyer/Planner.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the medical device development industry and excellent communication skills. They will be responsible for analysing build plans to make decisions on purchase order quantity, delivery date, and inventory levels.

Negotiations with suppliers to secure best pricing and lead times are also a key aspect of this role. The successful candidate will work closely with R&D to select suppliers and materials that meet our quality standards.

In addition to supplier management, the Buyer/Planner will be responsible for expediting material deliveries, booking deliveries onto the purchasing system, and issuing materials to production.

A strong understanding of MRP is essential for this role, as well as experience working in a GMP/Medical Device environment. Familiarity with product specifications and the ability to identify opportunities for cost reduction will also be highly valued.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing build plans to make decisions on purchase order quantity, delivery date, and inventory levels.
  • Negotiating best pricing and lead times with suppliers.
  • Expediting material deliveries to meet build plan requirements.
  • Booking deliveries onto the purchasing system.
  • Issuing material to production.
  • Maintaining a computerised purchasing database and investigating any inventory discrepancies.
  • Monitoring supplier performance and setting up key performance metrics (KPIs).
  • Collaborating with R&D on supplier/material selection.
  • Addressing material or quality issues and providing feedback to suppliers.
  • Carrying out supplier risk assessments to ensure continuous supply of materials.
  • Identifying opportunities for cost reduction.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Strong influencing and negotiating skills are also essential for this role.

The following qualifications and skills are required:

  • Minimum three years' experience in a professional buying position along with experience in material management.
  • Experience working in a GMP/Medical Device environment.
  • Experience in purchasing, supplier relations, material planning, and inventory management.
  • Proficient understanding of MRP.
  • Familiarity with product specifications.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
