About the Role

The Maples Group are looking to appoint a Regional COO responsible for their European law firm offices (Dublin, London, Luxembourg and Jersey) who will bring leadership to the Business Services support functions, help the Group professionalise and drive greater operational efficiencies across their European offices. The Group is committed to investing in the future of the business and has developed an operational improvement roadmap to promote operational excellence and support the Group's vision and priorities across all operational business areas. The Regional COO role for Europe will work together with the programme teams and ensure that the operational improvement initiatives are successfully delivered across Europe in an integrated manner.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing the EMEA regional operational strategy and business plan in alignment with the Maples Group global vision and objectives;
• Driving operational excellence and innovation across the EMEA region, ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal services, client satisfaction and retention, and compliance with professional standards and regulations;
• Ensuring alignment of all business operations across the region, with an emphasis on enhancing and evolving the operational infrastructure, driving operational efficiencies and improvements through our systems and processes;
• Managing the EMEA regional budget, financial performance and reporting, and identifying and pursuing opportunities for revenue growth, cost optimization and profitability improvement;
• Working with the Global COO to lead the EMEA Business Services teams and support the EMEA regional management team. Fostering a culture of high-performance, collaboration, engagement, diversity and inclusion, and talent development;
• Coordinating and facilitating the EMEA regional governance and decision-making processes, and ensuring alignment and integration with the global functions and initiatives;
• Representing the EMEA region internally and externally, and building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders;
• Take responsibility for all activities within the European region as related to:

the development and implementation of regional strategies;

a focus on revenue growth, costs and margin, talent decisions and the achievement of defined key performance metrics;

preparation and management of regional budgets for the European offices, ensuring revenue and profit targets are ambitious but achievable and local costs are appropriate and controlled;

new office openings, office moves and refurbishments, lease renewals and negotiations;

the evolution of our hybrid working policy, changes to our ways of working and how these impact our office environment;

• Manage the programme of regional meetings for Business Services teams and be an active participant in office Management Committees.

The role will require travel within the European region in addition to some global travel to support global initiatives.

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

In addition to high professional and ethical standards, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Extensive experience as a COO or CEO gained within an international law firm or professional services firm;
• Experience in working within a complex matrix organisation ;
• A Bachelors or Masters degree or a similar professional qualification in a business discipline;
• Strong business acumen and understanding of strategic and business planning gained through experience in senior level business roles, together with strong financial acumen;
• A strategic thinker, with a proven track record of delivery and implementation in a professional services context;
• Experience in successfully leading a cross-functional team of senior level business professionals supporting a multi-office organisation ;
• Experience in managing and delivering sizeable real estate/office premises projects, either large scale office moves and fit-outs or material refurbishments;
• Deep understanding of client needs and the skill and experience to guide the development of an innovation capability and support the delivery of client-centric operational solutions;
• Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills, including exceptional and persuasive written and verbal communication skills;
• A confident, calm and collegiate style; and
• Be detail oriented, results driven and have the ability to remain calm and work well under pressure.
