Our client the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are currently accepting applications for the position of Programme Officer IV (Level 6) General.


Overview of the Role:


The successful candidate will fulfil the role of Programme Officer IV (Level 6) and will be assigned an entry level administrative role with responsibility for a range of tasks in the office Castlebar or Kilkenny Regional Inspectorate.


They will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and duties will include administrative and support work to help ensure the smooth running of the office assigned.

Candidates must be flexible, capable of working to and meeting tight deadlines and committed to delivering high quality results and services.

They must demonstrate excellent inter-personnel skills, ability to build relationships (internal and external) and have a track record in delivering outstanding customer service in a busy office environment.

The assignment and area of work may subsequently change in accordance with organisational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
Candidates should demonstrate in their application their ICT, organisational and administrative skill that would enable them to perform the key responsibilities of the role as outlined below:

  • Carrying out a range of administrative tasks and prioritising tasks and ensuring they are carried out in a timely manner and to a high standard;
  • Creating and maintaining PC based information and inputting and retrieving data;
  • Maintaining high quality records management and up to date management information systems;
  • Reception duties including answering the phone and main door, and managing post;
  • Providing high quality customer service to both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Assisting with the organising and scheduling of internal and external meetings and conferences;
  • Responsibility for raising purchase orders for the office using the Financial Management system;
  • Administration support for the operation of water testing laboratory including operation of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS IT system);
  • Implementing statutory functions and adhering to EPA policies and procedures, including Health and Safety requirements;
  • Attending and participating in team meetings and other meetings as required;
  • Participating in training and development programmes to maintain and improve own performance and expertise required to perform in the role;
  • Working with a team to draft and prepare documents as well as compiling inputs into reports and presentations and;
  • Such other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Essential Requirements:
Candidates must demonstrate that they have on or before 4pm on Thursday 27th June 2024:

  • Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) plus a minimum of one-year's relevant work experience demonstrated in a similar office-based role and previous experience working to deadlines and effectively prioritising tasks. (A PLC or similar business/ administration at NFQ level 6 course can be used in lieu of one – year's work experience).

Demonstrate using specific examples of the following:
a. ICT skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn new systems;

b. Good communication skills including oral and written;

c. Ability to work and deliver as part of a team to meet objectives.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Previous experience adhering to policies, procedures or corporate guidelines.
