Chemistry and Microbiology Technician Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemistry and Microbiology Technician to join our team on a fixed-term contract. As a key member of the laboratory team, you will be responsible for conducting a range of analyses relevant to milk quality control and assurance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Raw Milk analysis including antibiotic/inhibitor detection;
  • Microbiological methods including testing of private well water, Statistical Process Control (SPC), culture techniques;
  • Rapid Microbiology Tests: Bactoscan, Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA), Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR),
  • Completion of documentation and maintenance of records;
  • Implementation and participation in internal and external proficiency tests;
  • Equipment cleaning, maintenance, and calibration;
  • Maintenance of laboratory hygiene standards;
  • Timely escalation of non-conformances or potential non-conformances, including participation in laboratory investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements include:

  • A qualification in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, or equivalent quality-related course;
  • Knowledge of and track record in the Agri/Dairy sector is preferred but not essential;
  • A good communicator and ability to work as part of a team;
  • An ability to interpret test data and problem-solving skills;
  • Flexible and dynamic with good organisational ability;
  • Willingness to do further relevant training and improvement.
