Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – Team Lead

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for Innovative Medical Devices

Location: Limerick, Ireland

Work Model: On-site four days per week, Friday work-from-home

A leading global medical technology organization is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their high-performing team in Limerick. This is a permanent position offering clear career progression and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the design and development of complex devices, including capital equipment and disposable components
  • Translate product requirements into detailed engineering specifications and select appropriate materials and processes
  • Oversee risk assessments, perform root cause analysis, and lead corrective actions
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve design for manufacturability
  • Manage projects, assign tasks, and coordinate cross-functional teams
  • Mentor and lead engineers, managing performance and development
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • 6–9 years' experience in medical device product development and leadership
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, DFM/DFA, and materials selection
  • Experienced in working under regulated systems (ISO 13485, MDR, FDA CFR 820) and project management
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
