Job Overview

Voluntary Housing Support Services (VHSS) is a company that provides a range of services to volunteer-led Approved Housing Bodies. Its board of directors consists of representatives from various Approved Housing Bodies.

The day-to-day operational matters and the delivery of VHSS services to its 28 member organisations are managed by a Manager and five other staff members. Of these 28 Approved Housing Bodies, 21 are based in Co. Limerick and the remaining 7 are based in counties Tipperary, Cork, Clare, Offaly and Kildare.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with governing documents
  • Guarantee VHSS complies with its charitable purpose for public benefit
  • Act in the best interests of VHSS
  • Exhibit reasonable care and skill
  • Manage VHSS assets
  • Contribute to strategic direction with insight, oversight and experience of strategy formation in other areas/sectors
  • Provide legal counsel, assisting on legal aspects and best practice
  • Liaise and engage with solicitors, accountants and auditors as required
  • Assist in creating strategic plans compliant with current legislation and best practice principles
  • Evaluate VHSS compliance with good governance principles and practices
Qualifications and Requirements

VHSS seeks an individual with a proven record in legal practice to join the board of directors. A qualified solicitor or barrister with at least five years experience is required. Expertise in housing and property related areas such as landlord/tenancy issues, contract law and conveyancing would be advantageous. Experience in employment law and company law would also be beneficial.

Meetings and Engagement

There will be four board meetings per annum, with additional meetings held as necessary. Meetings are typically held in Adare, Co Limerick or Limerick City and take place in person.
