Our organization is seeking a highly skilled Ecological Project Coordinator to join our Ecology team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of biodiversity protection and enhancement during construction projects.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a range of ecological projects, providing practical advice on protecting valued biodiversity features on construction sites. You will also assist clients in achieving compliance with environmental legislation through site-specific guidance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation, as well as excellent communication skills. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in pre-commencement ecological surveys and oversee ecological and environmental control on construction sites.
- Provide site-specific guidance on how clients can achieve compliance with environmental legislation.
- Review relevant documents, including AA/NIS, EcIA, CEMP, and species and habitat management plans.
- Consult with local planning authorities, local Biodiversity officers, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI).
- Conduct pre-construction and construction phase checks for protected species.
- Provide an ecological watching brief during vegetation clearance, building renovation or demolition, habitat translocation, creation, enhancement, and management work.
- Daily record keeping and production of reports for auditing purposes.
- A third-level qualification in environmental science, zoology, ecology, or a similar discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience on a broad range of ecological projects, ideally involving practical conservation advice or management.
- An awareness and understanding of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation and planning guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills, including face-to-face discussion with clients and contractors, as well as verbal and written communication.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
