
Ecological Services Manager

This position involves overseeing ecological and environmental control on construction sites, ensuring compliance with regulations and protecting valued biodiversity features. The successful candidate will gain experience in pre-commencement ecological surveys and assist in the delivery of biodiversity protection and enhancement during construction.
Key Responsibilities:- Advise clients on protecting valued biodiversity features.
- Provide practical assistance on achieving compliance with environmental legislation.
- Review relevant documents, including species and habitat management plans.
- Consult with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure effective conservation efforts.
- Conduct regular site checks for protected species.
- Deliver an ecological watching brief during vegetation clearance or building renovation/demolition, habitat translocation work, habitat creation, habitat enhancement, and habitat management work; and
- Maintain accurate records and produce reports as required.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong enthusiasm for managing ecological or environmental risks, advising clients on environmental regulations and planning conditions to ensure smooth project delivery.
Essential Requirements:- A third-level qualification in environmental science, zoology, ecology, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in ecological projects, preferably involving conservation advice or management.
- Knowledge of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients and contractors.
- Full driving license and willingness to travel to sites.
- Proven experience as an ECoW or in a similar field-based ecological role.
- Knowledge of construction management, civil engineering, and project management principles.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or the Association of Environmental Clerks of Work (AEnvCoW).
- Excellent IT skills and ability to use industry-standard software.
