We are seeking a highly skilled Main Ecologist to join our team of experts in environmental assessment and reporting. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in ecological surveying, data analysis, and reporting, with a strong background in coastal and marine ecology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting ecological assessments, preparing high-quality reports, and collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams on various projects. A key aspect of this role will be to provide expert advice on environmental impact assessments, conservation, and biodiversity management.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct ecological surveys and assessments to inform project design and implementation.
  • Prepare high-quality reports on ecological findings, including data analysis and interpretation.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to develop and implement project plans.
  • Provide expert advice on environmental impact assessments, conservation, and biodiversity management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A relevant degree (e.g., Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Sciences) and relevant consultancy experience focused on ecology.
  • Excellent reporting ability, with examples available.
  • Experience of ecological assessment/reporting requirements in particular for large-scale linear projects in the water, energy, or transport sectors.
  • Field ecology survey experience, habitat, non-volant mammals, birds, aquatic, and other specialized groups.
  • Knowledge of relevant Irish and European legislation, policy, and guidance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of GIS.
  • CIEEM membership or working towards same.
  • Willingness to travel.
Desirable Qualifications

The following qualifications would be advantageous:

  • Coastal and marine ecology/orithnology experience.
  • Experience of managing ecology survey databases.
  • Experience of line management and mentoring more junior ecologist staff.
