We are seeking a seasoned Department Head to lead our Adventure Department.

About the Role:
  • Develop and implement innovative strategies for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the department.
  • Oversee the management, recruitment, and monitoring of the team.
  • Manage training, content delivery standards, and team development within the team.
  • Provide instruction in specialist areas relevant to the activities offered by us, ensuring qualifications and skills are up to date.
  • Support adventure opportunities or projects affiliated with us.
  • Plan programmes of outdoor activities for guests, ensuring adherence to safety regulations.

This role involves strategic direction and guidance to management for optimal departmental effectiveness, risk assessment, and prompt action on any issues arising. Additionally, you will be responsible for purchasing, maintaining, and preparing activity equipment, managing finances, and ensuring accurate records for incident and safety audits, maintenance logs, and team records/training.

Requirements:
  • Qualifications and experience in various outdoor activities, including at least two full and relevant instructorships (RCI, CWI, ERCA).
  • Up-to-date First Aid qualification.
  • Previous management role in a similar business or similar experience.
  • Desirable: 3rd-level qualification in a related subject such as business management, outdoor education, leadership, recreation, or sports-related course.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership and management skills, strong teamworking abilities, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a proven track record in achieving labour cost KPIs. Experience in the hospitality and/or adventure industry is desirable, along with decision-making skills, flexibility, and an imaginative approach to work.
